Space requirements depend on the recording quality you choose. Here are approximate sizes per minute of footage:
- 720p @ 30fps — ~40 MB/min
- 1080p @ 30fps (default) — ~60 MB/min
- 1080p @ 60fps — ~120 MB/min
- 4K @ 30fps — ~170 MB/min
- 4K @ 60fps — varies by device, can exceed 300 MB/min
A typical 90-minute game at 1080p 30fps uses about 5–6 GB. Use HEVC encoding (Settings → Video Camera → Video Codec → High Efficiency) to cut file sizes roughly in half at the same quality.
Running low on space?
- Record at a lower resolution or frame rate
- Use HEVC encoding (50% smaller than H.264 at comparable quality)
- Save recordings to an external USB-C drive — connect a compatible drive and enable Settings → External Drive Recording. Files go directly to the drive and never fill your device.
